The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), through Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) is pleased to announce the offering of training grants to Malaysian students and Creative Multimedia industry practitioners.

In the fourth quarter of 2010, NKEA/CCI recommended a Scholarship scheme for the Creative Content Sector to address the shortcomings in manpower requirements for industry development. The recommendation by NKEA/CCI was based on the fact that although there appears to be enough talent to meet the demand, the industry has however expressed serious concern over the quality and skills of talent pool. It is to address these qualitative gaps that a Creative Industry Lifelong Learning Program through Training Grants was introduced.

PEMANDU allocated a budget specific for this program to address the talent gap that exists within the Creative Content Sector. MDeC acknowledges that there is an inherent talent and skills gap and we believe that a holistic model is required. The holistic approach would look into addressing the needs of the industry in a short to medium term timeline while taking into account the complexity of talent development for the creative content industry. It is with this realization that a model based on a LIFELONG LEARNING principle will be applied in the implementation of the scheme.

Lifelong learning is defined as 'all learning activity undertaken through-out life, with the aim of improving knowledge, skills and competence, within a personal, civic, social or employment-related perspective' by The European Commission. It promotes the development of knowledge and competences to adapt to the knowledge-based society. It also values all forms of learning including non-formal learning (vocational skills acquired at workplace) and informal learning (inter-generational learning). It is hoped that this program will encourage the attainment of formal recognition for our creative talents and encourage the creative industry practitioners to further upgrade their knowledge and skills.
